The airport rezoning issue
continues. The matter is scheduled to go before the Board of County
Commissioners for their approval on September 23, 2003. [ webmaster note:
this is now delayed to another date] To date, there are no more
opportunities for the public to hear, beforehand, about the airports
modifications or plans. It is possible Commissioner Morroni’s office will
have a meeting to explain the plan. This has yet to be confirmed. Also,
to date, a site planner has not been hired for this project.
The property includes the Airco
golf course, the club house property and parking lot. This area would be
converted to airport use, light industrial. A possible mitigation to this
rezoning is an exchange to the current Tiny Town disposal area (near
I-275 and Roosevelt). Making it the area to replace the “commercial
recreational” property now occupied by Airco. In addition, a 30 acre site
serving as a buffer to Feather Sound is being rezoned.
As active, concerned citizens,
I urge you to get involved. Some possible ways include:

The Board of
County commission meetings are held twice a month, usually, but not
always, on the first and third Tuesdays. Meetings in the latter part of
the month are actually held in two parts. Agenda items are discussed with
the Board at 3:00 pm, after which there is a break and the Board
reconvenes at 6:30 p.m. with Presentations and Awards, Citizens to be
Heard and scheduled Public Hearings. These meetings are designated for
zoning matters as well.
These meetings are held in the fifth floor Assembly Room of the County
Courthouse, 315 Court Street, Clearwater. Special listening devices are
available at the meetings upon request. Board meetings are televised LIVE
and repeated during the week on the Pinellas County Government Access
cable television Pinellas 18. |
